Luis Oviedo

Since he is a self-taught artist, he says his best schooling in art came from working alongside his father, Luis Oviedo (Nurys), who shared with the young Luis countless experiences with art in all forms. He remains thankful for all of the experiences provided by his father.
Born in Santo Domingo Dominican Republic in 1949, Luis began his artistic career at an early age.

Since he is a self-taught artist, he says his best schooling in art came from working alongside his father, Luis Oviedo (Nurys), who shared with the young Luis countless experiences with art in all forms. He remains thankful for all of the experiences provided by his father.

Major elements of his long career include:

1966- He started to work as a draftsman in the Office for National Statistics, Government Institute, for a period of 17 years. At the same time he was working in advertising at Berges Peña in the art department.

In the 70s – He created art for FENIX advertising firm.

1985- Started work at the company, Etiquettas Caribe, where he headed the Department of Art and Photography

1986- He traveled to the city of Miami, United States, invited by the Graphics Company of America, to participate in a graphics art convention.

1988- He was invited to participate as a juror in the selection off a creative art event for the business environment decorations industry

1988- Fue invitado a participar como jurado de selección a un evento de crea- tividad de la empresa Ambiente Decoraciones;

1990 & 1992- He was participated in the National Visual Arts Biennial competition. In the same years he also participated in the E. León Jiménez competition.

1996- Group show, Central Bank of the Dominican Republic.
He also participated in the third National Painting Contest of Barcelo Hotels, celebrating the Hotel Lina

1997- Group exhibition “El Cibao Pinta”, Volunteers of Santiago, in the Cultural Center, to benefit the youth

2001- Group exhibition in Galaxy D’ Art, New York City

2003- Private Exhibition on 9th Ave. between 45th and 46th St, Manhattan New York, USA.

2005- Group exhibition “El Cibao Pinta”, Volunteers of Santiago, in the Cultural Center, to benefit the youth

2006- Private Collection, MH-PTV Auditors and Consultants

2007- Group Exhibition at Berri Art Gallery
