Cuevas pieces have brought a piece of the island to collections around the world.
Juan Cuevas is a Puerto Rican born artist
whose work reflects the heritage and culture of his island. Through colorful and vibrant paintings and silkscreens he portrays Puerto Rico. Cuevas has worked together, for decades, with fellow Puerto Rican artist and master, Wichie Torres. Cuevas pieces have brought a piece of the island to collections around the world.
Born on June 21, 1956 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Son of Doña Maria Teresa Plaza and Don Pablo Cuevas. He studied at the Gaetán Barboza elementary school in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Luchetti School of Fine Arts, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Plastic Arts from the University of Puerto Rico and the University of Puerto Rico Architecture Precinct. At Cornwall College, he earned his Master of Fine Arts.
Juan Cuevas is distinguished precisely by his simplicity and humility, characteristics that are reflected in his work. His paintings consist mostly of rural scenes, nostalgic landscapes of country life, children playing after school, our “flamboyánes” so common in the countryside, traditional agricultural work, among other common scenes in the everyday life of the rural Puerto Rico. He was for a long time an assistant in the production of silkscreens for Wichie Torres, a renowned artist of the country. Juan Cuevas works are in various international private collections.
